Scoil Eoin, Ballincollig, became the first and only school in both Cork city and county to be awarded the prestigious International Fourth Green Flag for sustainable travel on Friday, May 14th 2010.
A number of special guests were invited for the raising of the flag including Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, Lord Mayor Derrry Canty, and Minister Bat O’ Keeffe.
All the boys put huge effort into getting to and from school by walking and cycling rather than by car.
Walking buses continue to run every Friday from a number of estates.

Christmas was a very busy time for us. We took part in the school Christmas Play (The Most Disgruntled Snowman) which was held up in the church. We were dressed up as elves for our song Must Be Santa. We also learned lots of other songs including When Children Rule the World, Heal the World, and our favourite The Climb. Here are some photos of us in the classroom before the show.
We also had a very special visitor before we got our holidays! Santy took time out from his Christmas preparations and called in to say hello!

On Pancake Tuesday we made pancakes with Miss O’ Neill’s boys. To make the batter you need flour, eggs and milk. We all got to taste them after and they were delicious!

As part of Catholic Schools Week, we celebrated Grandparent’s Day on Wednesday 3rd February. We invited Finbarr in to talk to us about his grandsons Cian and Darragh. He also told us all about his life growing up as a little boy in Cork. We learned about the differences between now and then. Finbarr told us about his house, family, school, games he played etc. We enjoyed listening to his stories about long ago, listening to his music, and getting a chance to try out some old games and juggling! Have a look on our ‘Photos’ page for more photographs.
